Hi, so I've been corresponding with my pen pal for 2 years now, and recently his letters are getting really sexual all of a sudden. He's asking me very intimate/personal questions and he's talking in very sexual way. I don't really know how to react or where this is coming from, but it's making me some what uncomfortable. What should I do?

A

I would be extremely perturbed if a pen pal I had been writing to for two years suddenly started saying/asking me sexual things! 😳 Especially out of the blue, if your conversations had never been of that nature before. If it is making you uncomfortable, you absolutely have right the tell him that. What I would do is write to him and say (in your own words) “What the hell, dude? We have never had conversations like this and the sexual things that you are saying make me uncomfortable. Please stop.” There is absolutely nothing wrong with establishing and enforcing your personal boundaries, and if your pen pal can’t respect that, they don’t deserve to talk to you. Let me know how it goes!

The Goulburn Correctional Centre is a minimum, maximum and super-maximum security prison for men, located in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia. The first cell block on Goulburn prison grounds was built around 1830. The gallows were built in 1832. During this time, floggings and hangings of prisoners were common.

In the 1880’s, a new prison was built at Goulburn, which is still in use today. The vast majority of prisoners at Goulburn live in series of yards and cell blocks referred to as “The Circle” sometimes referred to as “the human zoo”. Inmates are grouped together in a cluster of enclosed yards by offense or classification. One yard holds rapists and murderers, while another holds only robbers.

Goulburn is best known for its Supermax unit , which houses Australia’s most dangerous and notorious murderers, rapists, terrorists and pedophiles. Opened in 2001, The High-Risk Management Unit (HRMU, also referred to as HARM-U by inmates) is the most secure prison in New South Wales. Inmates in Supermax are video recorded and monitored around the clock, are moved to different cells every two weeks, and are subject to random x-ray tests. They are given access to fresh air and natural sunlight on extremely rare occasions. Visitors and staff members entering the HRMU must have their eyes scanned before the gates will open.

Notable inmates include:

Malcolm George Baker< /a> – Spree killer
Ivan Milat – serial killer, known as “The backpacker murderer”
Robert Hughes – former actor, artist and musician, best known for Australian TV sitcom Hey Dad!, doing time for sexual offenses against children.
Michael Kanaan – convicted of three murders, but suspected of many more.

The Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution at Graterford, also known as SCI Graterford (SCIG) was a maximum security state prison for men, located in Skippack Township, Montgomery County Pennsylvania. Located about 31 miles NW of Philadelphia, SCIG was built in 1929 on 1,730 acres and housed about 3,500 inmates, making it the largest maximum security facility in the state during its years of operation. The prison campus is surrounded by 30 foot high concrete walls and nine guard towers. SCIG operated an extensive prison farm operation, as well as a garment and undergarment factory, shoe and hosiery factory, weave plant, carton factory and mail distribution center.

In the late 2000s, Pennsylvania began making plans for a new prison facility, SCI Phoenix, to replace Graterford, whose outdated infrastructure made it too expensive to continue operations. The state struggled for almost a decade to complete the new facility, missing several deadlines for completion due to issues with sewer lines, lawsuits between contractors and bureaucratic red tape. Graterford inmates dreaded the change, as hundreds of long-term inmates were used to living in single-man cells, and many of the programs they enjoyed were not to be continued at the new facility. In the months leading up to the final days at Graterford, five inmates committed suicide, and its warden resigned.

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections successfully moved all of its inmates to SCI Phoenix and on July 15th, 2018, Graterford prison officially closed its doors forever.

The Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility (LRF) is a minimum and medium security state prison for men, located in Muskegon Heights, Muskegon county Michigan. Opened in 1989, the facility occupies 76 acres and is surrounded by a double fence fortified with razor ribbon wire. Armed patrol vehicles maintain the perimeter in addition to electronic detection systems. In 1997, two gun towers were added to perimeter security. Brooks has a capacity for about 570 inmates in six housing units divided by security class, with a 22 bed administrative segregation unit. Brooks is co-located with the Muskegon Correctional Facility and shares several administrative employees, including their warden. The West Shoreline Correctional Facility shared prison grounds with Muskegon and Brooks until its closure. In 2015, longtime warden Mary Berghuis was escorted from the prison grounds and barred from entering both facilities. She was placed on administrative leave and retired after a b rief investigation, which ended any further inquiry into the matter. Officials stated that Berghuis has broken “work rules” but declined to elaborate further. She was replaced by Shirley Harry, who had been the warden of Pugsley Correctional Facility which closed just before she began her new position. {source} {source}

In February of 2011, the facility began participating in the Shakespeare Behind Bars program, in which inmates rehearse and put on productions of the works of Shakespeare for an audience.

In July of 2018, inmate Alfonzo Buchanan was released by mistake from Earnest C. Brooks following a clerical error in the office of the parole board. Following his release, Buchanan took a bus to Grand Rapids and went straight to the Kent County Parole Office, as he had been ordered to do. When he arrived, he was taken back into custody, and properly paroled a week later. {source}

SCI Huntingdon is a maximum security state prison for men, located near Huntingdon, Smithfield Township Pennsylvania. The facility opened in 1889 and is the oldest continually operating penitentiary in the state, and holds about 1,570 inmates in 14 housing units. Huntingdon operates three major industrial plants on the grounds, where inmates manufacture clothing, laundry soap and detergent, printed media and stickers.

Huntingdon prison has been widely condemned by prisoner’s rights and human rights coalitions for the deplorable conditions inside the 128 year-old prison, and for its overuse of solitary confinement, which is so severe as to actually constitute as torture under the conditions defined by the United Nations. Nick Yarris, who was exonerated and released from death row in Pennsylvania after serving 23 years, reported that when he arrived at Huntingdon Prison, he was told that he was not allowed to speak, and he did not speak for the first two years of his time there. Inmates in solitary confinement (Special management unit, or SMU) are locked in single-man cells for 23 hours a day, and receive one hour of exercise in a caged-in pen. They are not allowed to participate in work, educational, counseling, sports or religious activities, and are handcuffed and shackled whenever they are moved. Many inmates spend years or even decades in solitary confinement, even when they are elderly and do not constitute a security threat.

Why did Texas stop offering special meals for those that are soon to be executed? That’s messed up. Like yeah, they’re about to die but the least they can do is prepare a meal of their choosing. 😢

The requests were getting extravagant so they put an end to it. If they were going to kill me, I don’t think I’d be able to eat anything, but I guess it was something nice for some of them…

Texas famously ended their “last meal” program because of this guy - Lawrence Brewer. He was convicted and sentenced to death for the the murder of {James Byrd} in 1998. Brewer requested two chicken fried steaks, a bacon cheeseburger, a bowl of fried okra, a pound of BBQ meat, three fajitas, a meat lover’s pizza, a pint of ice cream and a slab of peanut butter fudge with crushed peanuts. His meal was prepared in the prison’s kitchen and was delivered to him, but Brewer refused to eat a single bite, prompting Texas state prison officials to discontinue the act of offering a last meal to the condemned. Texas now only offers the standard issue dinner tray that is provided to all Huntsville inmates. All death row inmates in Texas are allowed the Eucharist as a final meal.

Can you make a post about Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility plz?!

A

I will add this to my list! I have been asked to do more posts about Michigan prisons and it is my intention to do so but I have learned that Michigan is really tight lipped about their facilities. It’s hard to find information that I can credibly source. But I have tomorrow off and it’s going to be a million degrees outside so I will have time to work on this while I hide from the cursed sun. 🌞

Londoner here again; i just read the full post about dear Bradders & i'm so conflicted. he was a douche, doing what he did, attempting to rob the same store so many times in such such a short period, taking away innocent lives...but his last meal sounds exactly like what i would order & his last statement was pretty great, lmao

A

Hi! 👋 I am laughing at “dear bradders”. 😂 yeah, he was definitely a shit head for robbing the same damn store repeatedly. Come on, dude. 🙄 Can you imagine what it would be like to have a grocery store in that time period and just trying to run a business and someone could just come in and rob you multiple times? Leave 👏 Mr 👏 Ikeda 👏 alone. 👏

Because this case is so old, the details of Bradders life are lost in the ether. I would really love to know what his upbringing was like. In those days, Seattle was basically cowboy country. You could do whatever you want. Fun detail - I grew up in Seattle and this incident took place on Pike street on Capitol Hill and I can envision it happening. The area now is all hipster shops and high-rise multi use retail/condos and it’s a very different place from the grungy rocker neighborhood it used to be. Just up the street from where this happened is Linda&rsqu o;s Tavern, Which is the last place that Kurt Cobain was seen alive. Lots of history in that block.

His last meal sounds delicious! I love that he was like “I ate too much. I know you’re fixin’ to kill my ass in a few minutes but can I lay down first?” Oh, Bradders. 😂😭
